Old South is one of London’s most recognizable and established neighbourhoods, located immediately south of the Thames River and Downtown London. Known for its mature tree-lined streets, distinctive older homes and strong community identity, the area offers a central location with a relaxed residential atmosphere.

Although Wortley Village forms the neighbourhood’s best-known commercial and cultural centre, Old South extends well beyond the village itself. Residents are close to independent shops, cafés, restaurants and professional services along Wortley Road, together with convenient access to Downtown London, Victoria Hospital and major routes throughout the city.

Housing in Old South is exceptionally diverse. The neighbourhood includes modest cottages, brick bungalows, traditional two-storey homes, Victorian and Edwardian residences, larger character properties and a limited number of substantial historic homes. Many houses feature covered porches, original woodwork, stained glass, mature gardens and other architectural details associated with London’s older neighbourhoods.

Some properties have been extensively renovated and updated while maintaining their original character, while others remain closer to their traditional design. Old South also includes duplexes, triplexes, converted multi-family dwellings, small apartment buildings, townhomes and selected infill developments.

Different sections of Old South offer their own distinct character. Streets surrounding Wortley Village are especially known for walkability and access to local businesses, while areas farther south and east often feature quieter residential streets, smaller homes and a more traditional family-oriented setting.

Recreational amenities include Thames Park, the Thames River and connections to the Thames Valley Parkway. The historic Normal School and surrounding green space are also important community landmarks. With its varied architecture, central location, independent businesses and established community atmosphere, Old South continues to be one of London’s most sought-after and distinctive residential areas.
